Grandeur Pomp Typeface
For my Typography III class we were instructed to design our very own typeface after studying the history of bitmap fonts. We used the application Font Struct to design our typeface using geometrical shapes. We had to design the whole uppercase and lowercase alphabet, numbers, and symbols after extensively studying typographical principles. I came up with many different sketches and variations of a typeface using grid paper and Font Struct before landing on my final typeface which I named Grandeur Pomp as seen below. I wanted to create an elongated, tall typeface inspired by the art deco movement art deco typefaces. I wanted my typeface design to not have any descenders but rather have my letters solely stay firm on the baseline. We were assigned to create a 17" x11" anatomy of type poster showcasing ten different anatomies of type in our typeface, an 8.5" x 11" page displaying our entire alphabet, numbers, and symbols, and five different advertisement/graphics using our designed typeface.
